This page will summarize information about specific personal productivity methods, with pointers to pertinent posts and other resources.
- Handling priorities: Here's my first real chunk of useful stuff for DFW: handling priorities. I've rattled on quite at length about it at my other blog. Here, I want to follow a more methodological approach. Why should you care about prioritizing tasks, and how can you do it so that prioritization is both effective and efficient?
- What's on Your List? One of my "breakthrough moments" in trying to get organized came only recently - about a year ago - when I asked myself: What kinds of tasks do I put on my to-do list? It turned out that my answer to that question pointed me at the most important criteria I wanted in a task management system.
- Three styles of task manager apps: I've found task managers for the iPhone can be roughly categorized into three types. If you can identify which type best suits you, it should be much easier for you to find a good app.
- Simulating action lists with ToDo: I really like action lists - these are integrative lists that show you, in one place, all your current tasks. Not all task manager apps use action lists. In this post, I'll describe how you can set up Appigo ToDo's focus list to act like an action list.
- Toodledo trick: rolling tasks: For tasks that require multiple sittings to complete and that don't have a deadline, you can get Toodledo to automatically reorder them so that the one you haven't worked on in the longest time is at the top. This helps make sure you spread your time over all open tasks.
- Do you really need that deadline? This is my take on whether or not to use the "due date" field for a given task. TL;DR version: I agree with the consensus out there: use due dates only for tasks that actually have a real due date.
- My first original tool: formatting Autofocus: Autofocus is a miracle of simplicity. But it may be too simple for many. This post describes one way to add a tiny bit more to Autofocus yet get what I think is a significant gain.
There's lots of other posts here about methods; you can get a list by selecting the methods label.
