We gladly announce our 8th Sustainable Summer School, taking place at Nikolaus Monastery in Jüchen, Germany from September 3 to 10, 2017! For this Summer School we invite students and young professionals from all over the world to discover the topic of "Smartphones, Resources and Human Rights". The Topic
The introduction of smartphones is one of the most striking cultural innovations since the invention of printing. Within one decade, smartphones have radically effected on our everyday lives. These revolutionary innovation is just about to accelerate the changes in our lives, our cultural and economic patterns, and even of our bodies in an unprecedented manner.

On the other hand, smartphone production and use has enormous impacts on material flows around the globe. The impacts are not limited to the resources of the planet only, but affect as well all the people who are ensnared into the extraction of resources, their well-being, their political and ecological situation, and their human right situation. We will immerse into these challenging contexts in a one-week intensive workshop with a strong trans-disciplinary approach.

The Partners of Sustainable Summer School are cooperating since 2008, in order to provide insights in research, standards, practices and perspectives of Sustainable Design to all affiliated disciplines. The 8th Sustainable Summer School is organized by:

Target Group
Bachelor and Diploma students, Master and Ph.D. students, and Young Professionals from the fields of: Design and Engineering, Business and Economy, Sustainability and Human Rights, Politics and Sociology, Humanities and Arts, Cultural Studies and Material Sciences, Computer Sciences and Geology, Education and Geography, Logistics and other disciplines of relevance and interest.

Registration
Please register at http://www.sustainable-summer-school.org. The number of participants is limited to 40 persons. Along with your application, please send a one-page cover letter (PDF) describing your motivation for the topic, and your academic or professional background.

Tuition and Accommodation Fees
500,- EUR for tuition and full-board accommodation.

Arrival and Departure Dates
Arrival: September 3rd, 2017, before 6 p.m.
Departure: September 10th, after breakfast.

Schedule
all breakfasts, lunches and dinners will be held as group meals in order to strengthen the communication and foster the exchange.
